Alexander Reid established the Macallan Distillery in 1824 near Easter Elchies House on the Easter Elchies estate. Easter Elchies House was built in the year 1700. The Macallan Distillery is a malt whisky distillery in the Speyside whisky region of Scotland. In 2008, the old still house was re-commissioned, and Macallan Distillery now has two still houses with twenty-one copper stills each.Traditional dunnage warehouses and racking in vast modern warehouses on the estate are used for on-site maturation. The Macallan visitor centre is open all year and provides tours of the distillery. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival is also attended by the Macallan Distillery.
