Overview: Kracheris a wine producer located in theBurgenlandregion ofAustria, where the estate’s vineyards span from the village of Illmitz to the shores of Lake Neusiedl. The terroir here is perfect for the spread ofboytrisor ‘noble rot’, and Kracher make a range of lusciously sweetBeerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslesewines.
The Kracher estate is located in Seewinkel on a vast plain dotted with numerous shallow lakes. Water evaporation from the lakes generates a dense fog which hangs over the area until it is eventually broken by the midday sun. These conditions are ideal for the development ofBotrytis cinerea, which is instrumental in the production of Kracher’s signature Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines.
The estate was founded by Alois Kracher in the mid-20th Century, and taken over by his son Luis in 1991. Luis Kracher became an important figure in the Austrian wine industry, but sadly died in 2007. His son, Gerhard Kracher, took over and has run the estate since.
